Downtown Veterinary Associates at 282 First Street is one amazing veterinary location in Jersey City, NJ. The vets and staff are professional and.caring to pets and their owners. I have had 4 of my pups and my cat visit over the last few years. I trust them implicitly when I bring my pets in to be checked out. Special kudos to their amazing team of Dr. Mirei Sakane, Max the tech, and Grace, Christina and Jennifer at the front desk.

We had a wonderful experience with Dr. Ponce and her team! She helped us navigate all the international paperwork and health requirements for our overseas trip with our dog, Montana. Dr. Ponce is extremely professional, super knowledgeable, and took the time to guide us through every detail to make sure everything was in order. Her staff is also very friendly and helpful — they made the whole process smooth and stress-free. Highly recommend for anyone needing expert veterinary care or travel documentation support!

Recently took our dog for a dental cleaning, and she came back to us with multiple extractions, without even telling us before it happened. As a facility with no dental xray capability this was surprising given they couldn't confirm any actually infection or cracks, and also means that in case of more complex extractions or if a tooth was cracked, they wouldn't be able to confirm remains of shard remains in the gum. That said, apparently it was deemed by the vet that she had pockets in her gum and some enamel erosion that could lead to infection - and that was enough for extraction. This means to us that it was a preventative action. She had previously not displayed any other dental pain or symptoms...If it was a preventative measure and not life threatening why did they not even let us know prior to a surgical procedure. We actually asked that question and the vet told us that he can't go and call us while the dog is under anesthesia, and that it wasn't a departure from the high end of the estimate - which it actually was...well why not have an assistant just call us before extracting teeth...all in all it was a disappointing experience. Overall the front desk staff is nice, have had relatively normal experience until this (that's why 2 stars). Won't be going here anymore due to lack of transparency and common curtesy in their process. It feels like they will pull teeth regardless if it's within the estimate, even just for preventative measures, and won't let you know about it till it's done - that's how it ultimately felt.
